- There is a good death (Luke 9:21-22; Romans 5:6-9)
- There is a good life (Luke 9:23-25; Habakkuk 2:4)
- Don't be shy about either (Luke 9:26-27)
Luke 9:21-27
21 Jesus warned his disciples not to tell anyone who he was. 22 "The Son of Man must suffer many terrible things," he said. "He will be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He will be killed, but on the third day he will be raised from the dead."
Romans 5:6-9
6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 And since we have been made right in God's sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God's condemnation.
Luke 9:23-25
23 Then he said to the crowd, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. 24 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 25 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?
Habakkuk 2:4
The righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.
Luke 9:26-27
26 If anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in his glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels. 27 I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Kingdom of God."
Proverbs 17:5,12
5 Those who mock the poor insult their Maker; those who rejoice at the misfortune of others will be punished. 12 It is safer to meet a bear robbed of her cubs than to confront a fool caught in foolishness.
