WHEN YOU'RE LOST AND CHOOSE TO STAY LOST: PART 2

  1. You stay busy, even religious (Luke 15:25-27)
  2. But God knows your heart isn't right (Luke 15:28-29; Jeremiah 17:9; Psalm 51:5; Ephesians 2:3; Mark 7:20-23)
  3. Jesus is the elder brother we really need (Luke 15:30; Psalm 103:13; Hebrews 2:11-13)
Luke 15:25-27
25 "Meanwhile, the older son was in the fields working. When he returned home, he heard music and dancing in the house, 26 and he asked one of the servants what was going on. 27 'Your brother is back,' he was told, 'and your father has killed the fattened calf. We are celebrating because of his safe return.'

Luke 15:28-29
28 "The older brother was angry and wouldn't go in. His father came out and begged him, 29 but he replied, 'All these years I've slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends.

Jeremiah 17:9
9 The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?

Psalm 51:5
5 For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.

Ephesians 2:3
3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God's anger, just like everyone else.

Mark 7:20-23
20 And then he added, 'It is what comes from inside that defiles you. 21 For from within, out of a person's heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. 23 All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.'

Luke 15:30
30 Yet when this son of yours comes back after squandering your money on prostitutes, you celebrate by killing the fattened calf!'

Psalm 103:13
13 The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.

Hebrews 2:11-13
11 So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters. 12 For he said to God, 'I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise you among your assembled people.'
